WHY THIS SPECIES?
I've chosen an α-proteobacterium named Sphingomonas melonis for two main reasons. First of all, it's quite interesting 'cause it can infect melon plants and spoil the harvest. And, secondly, I heard something about α-protebacteria (if I'm not mistaken, that's the group that is supposed to be the ancestor of mitochondria).
