Its presence in blood or cerebrospinal fluid of patients with bloodstream infection (BSI)causes the highest mortality among k. pneumoniae sensu lato (Maatallah M, Vading M, Kabir MH, et al. klebsiella variicola is a frequent cause of bloodstream infection in the stockholm area, and associated with higher mortality compared to k. pneumoniae.
